Seth Jarvis Over 2.5 Shots On Goal (-105) Sports Interaction

The mainstream NHL media has been eager to criticize the Carolina Hurricanes over the Mikko Rantanen situation, and the fact that management’s decision to swing for the fences ultimately left the team short a true superstar in Martin Necas.

Hurricanes’ fans can take solace in the fact that Seth Jarvis is in the first season of an eight-year contract with a 7.4 AAV, which will likely prove to be an absolute steal as salary cap rises.

Jarvis has stepped up with two fantastic performances in the first two games since Mikko Rantanen’s departure, recording two goals and 10 shots against a pair of elite defenses in the Winnipeg Jets and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Hurricanes’ new-look top line of Jarvis, Sebastian Aho, and Jackson Blake has been highly effective, albeit in a small sample size. They have generated 5.65 expected goals per 60 minutes in 70 minutes of even-strength play, the highest rating in the league among any offensive unit that has played over 50 minutes together.

Blake has continued to progress in his rookie season and is one of many reasons why nobody should be feeling sorry for the Hurricanes.

Based on Jarvis’ current roles and dominant recent play, this looks like a good spot to back him to record over 2.5 shots on goal again at -105.

Jani Nyman Over 1.5 Shots On Goal (-130) Sports Interaction

As the Seattle Kraken traded away three full-time NHL forwards at the deadline, Jani Nyman earned a well-deserved opportunity to make his NHL debut on Tuesday evening against the Montreal Canadiens. The 20-year-old has recorded 26 goals in 55 games with the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds this season and possesses an elite shot, even by NHL standards.

Nyman’s elite shooting ability was on full display in his NHL debut, as he recorded a goal, three shots, and eight attempts. He was named the game’s first star after his third-period tally sparked an impressive Kraken comeback.

Kraken head coach Dan Bylsma had the right approach to Nyman’s usage, playing the talented young Finn alongside two capable offensive pieces at even strength in Jared McCann and Andre Burakovsky while also giving him minutes on the top power-play unit.

Things will likely get tougher for Nyman over a larger sample of NHL play, but he is a pure shooter in ideal roles to maximize his best asset. With Nyman expected to remain in the same roles for Friday’s matchup against the Utah Hockey Club, a price of -130 for him to record over 1.5 shots on goal looks like solid value.
