Sabres' Head Coach Lindy Ruff insisted that he trusted Ellis because of the big saves he was making with the games on the line, and as such, he will roll with Ellis for the fourth time in the last week. The 25-year-old rookie netminder was excellent in his most recent outing, saving 32 of 33 shots (.970 SV%) in Buffalo's 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. He has a 2.76 GAA and .914 SV% in four games this season (3-1-0). The Sabres enter Wednesday's contest as -154 home favourites against a struggling Calgary Flames team that lost 5-2 last night to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Earlier in the season, the Flames were playing Dustin Wolf on both ends of back-to-backs, but have seemingly been more comfortable lately with Cooley, who will tend the twine on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres. The 28-year-old Cooley has yet to record a win this season, but has been impressive in limited action, posting a 1.75 GAA and .935 SV% in five appearances (0-2-1). The Flames enter Wednesday's contest as +137 road underdogs against a Sabres team coming off a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Milano will slot in for Nic Dowd, who was a late scratch due to an undisclosed injury. Milano has appeared in eight games this season, registering one goal and zero assists.

Dowd was a surprise scratch on Wednesday, with the Capitals not announcing his absence prior to warmups. Sonny Milano will dress in his place.

The 32-year-old Forsberg has been inconsistent this season, but is coming off a terrific performance against his former team, saving all 17 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over the Ottawa Senators. Forsberg has a 2.96 GAA and .890 SV% in six games this season (3-2-1).

With Alexander Romanov (upper body) placed on Injured Reserve, the Islanders have recalled Warren from Bridgeport (AHL). The 24-year-old Warren made his NHL debut earlier this season, recording two assists in two games. He has nine points (2G / 7A) in 10 games with Bridgeport this season.

Romanov violently collided into the boards near the end of the third period after a collision with Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen. Romanov needed assistance leaving the ice, and Rantanen was issued a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. Islanders' Head Coach Patrick Roy did not have an update on Romanov after the game, but said he did not need to go to the hospital. That said, he was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday afternoon, meaning he will be out of the lineup for at least one week.

Kuzmenko's ice time has dropped below eight minutes in his last two games, as he has been playing primarily on the fourth line, leading to him being a healthy scratch in the team's last three games (2-1-0). McAvoy exited Boston's 3-2 win over Montreal on Saturday after only 13:41 time-on-ice due to an upper-body injury and has not played since. The 27-year-old defenseman successfully underwent surgery on Wednesday, but it's unclear when he will return and if this will impact his availability for the upcoming winter Olympics. Garland suffered an undisclosed injury in the first period of Vancouver's 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday, exiting the game after only 4:21 time-on-ice. The 29-year-old Garland has 13 points (5G / 8A) in 17 games this season. He will return to the lineup on Thursday against the Dallas Stars after a one-game absence.
