The Boston Bruins have placed right winger Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers, reports Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
Originally joining the Bruins in mid-December after being claimed off waivers from the New York Islanders, the 24-year-old native of Portland, Maine later saw 16 showings with Boston in which he recorded one goal and one assist for two points coupled with 28 penalty minutes. Combining his 27 games with the Islanders earlier this year, Wahlstrom has totaled 43 appearances in 2024-25 in which he has tallied three goals and three assists for six points alongside 37 penalty minutes and a minus-six rating.
Selected 11th overall by the Islanders in the 2018 NHL Draft, Wahlstrom has totaled 236 career contests between New York and Boston in which he has notched 37 goals and 36 assists for 73 points. With the Islanders in 2021-22, Wahlstrom reached career highs in all major offensive categories counting 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points coming in 73 games. In 2021, Wahlstrom made his lone appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring once and adding two assists for three points through five showings.
Wahlstrom has also seen success in international competition, underscored by a silver medal win at the 2019 World Juniors where through seven outings he collected two goals and two assists for four points. Wahlstrom also twice represented the United States at the IIHF Under-18 World Championship, counting a gold medal victory in 2017 and a silver medal finish the following year.
For the Bruins, the club sits 27-24-8 on the season and two points back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wildcard seed in the Eastern Conference. Seeing overtime losses in their past two outings, the Bruins will look to return to the win column when the club retakes the ice Thursday against the Islanders.
