The Internationa Ice Hockey Federation has published its latest updates to its 2024 men’s world rankings, with Canada remaining in top spot following the World Hockey Championship.

The IIHF’s rankings take into account performances from the past four years, including the 2022 Olympics, Olympic qualification, and World Championship action. The NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament will not factor into the IIHF rankings next year, and U-18 and U-20 tournaments also have no bearing on the results.

The full updated rankings can be found here.

Canada’s fourth-place finish in Czechia allowed Canada to sit at 4,100 points, 35 points ahead of Russia in second. Canada won gold in 2021 and 2023, and finished second in 2022.

The Russians moved up one spot past Finland despite not participating in the past World Championship events, with their last relevant appearance coming during the 2022 Olympics.

Belarus, who also hasn’t played over the past two years in any IIHF competition, fell two spots to 16th.

Russia and Belarus are banned for the 2024-25 IIHF season, which includes the prevention of Belarus’ participation in the final Olympic qualification round in August.

Finland fell down one spot to third place after losing out in the quarterfinal, marking the only dropped position out of the top five.

Germany saw the biggest fall, dropping three spots from fifth to eighth after failing to make it to the medal round this year. USA (-2 to sixth) and Sweden (-1 to seventh) also fell within the top 10, while Slovakia (ninth) and Latvia (10th) remain in the same spots as last year.

The two finalists from the World Championship saw the biggest improvement, with Czechia moving up four spots to fourth and Switzerland bumping up two spots to fifth.

Outside of the top 10, Austria (+3 to 13th), Great Britain (+3), United Arab Emirates (+3 to 36th) and Georgia (+3 to 50th) also saw big movement.

The same 58 teams that featured on last year’s rankings appear on the 2024 list.

The 2025 World Championship will be split between Sweden and Denmark, with the remaining Olympic qualification events taking place later this year.
