Canucks’ Kiefer Sherwood to return Sunday against Red Wings

Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood will return to the lineup Sunday versus the Detroit Red Wings.

Sherwood missed the last four games due to an undisclosed injury.

Last Monday, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet confirmed to Jeff Paterson of Canucks Army that the left winger will not join the team at the beginning of its upcoming three-game road trip which saw the Canucks win 5-2 over the St. Louis Blues, 3-1 over the Nashville Predators and lose Friday’s game 5-3 to the Dallas Stars.

Sherwood has registered 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points with 22 penalty minutes. Sherwood also ranks first league-wide with 273 hits and leads by 79 over Philadelphia Flyers‘ Garnet Hathaway, who has played 6 more games.

During the 2023-24 campaign with the Nashville Predators, Sherwood notched a career-high 27 points counting 10 goals and 17 assists through 68 contests, while his 234 hits ranked 15th-best league-wide at season’s end.

Vancouver signed Sherwood to a two-year contract that carries a $1.5-million annual average value, per PuckPedia.

In all, through 234 career contests with the Anaheim DucksColorado Avalanche, Predators, and Canucks, Sherwood has tallied 37 goals and 42 assists for 79 points. Following his tenure with the NCAA’s Miami RedHawks, Sherwood signed with the Ducks in 2018 as an undrafted free agent.

The Canucks will also be looking at three new additions to their lineup which include Filip Chytil, who came over from the New York Rangers as part of the J.T. Miller trade, and Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor who both arrive from Pittsburgh.

Vancouver sits fifth in the Pacific Division with a 23-18-10 record and 56 points through 51 games.
