The 2024 NHL Draft is shaping up to be a good one with prospects like Macklin Celebrini poised to go No. 1 and Cole Eiserman, Anton Silayev, Ivan Demidov and Cayden Lindstrom making strong cases to go top five.

Today on Daily Faceoff Live, Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis joined the show to discuss Lindstrom’s dominance in the WHL with the Medicine Hat Tigers and how he projects as a modern-day NHL power forward.

Frank Seravalli: I want to ask about No. 5 on your draft rankings and that’s Cayden Lindstrom going to the Ottawa Senators based on today’s draft lottery standings. What do you see for Lindstrom and is No. 5 the ceiling or could he climb as high as No. 2?

Steven Ellis: Absolutely, I feel like I am underrating him compared to other people. He’s got the size and skill, he’s been dealing with an injury this season and has missed a month of hockey where he wasn’t able to be at the CHL Top Prospects game in Moncton last week. He’s got 27 goals in 32 games, 46 points to be exact.

Steven Ellis: He’s very physical probably one of the best power forward guys, he’s 6-foot-5, he’s got the speed and if you’re a big guy you got to have the speed in today’s game and he’s got it, if he goes at No. 5 I think that’s a pick that Ottawa will love; it’s someone who can play wing and centre and can muscle everyone out fo the way. He is kind of what everyone wanted Quinton Byfield to become, just in terms of how he dominates junior hockey. He is so much fun to watch and there are not that many guys who have that size who can move that well on the ice and take over a game.
