Connor McDavid’s magical season continues.

The Edmonton Oilers superstar registered his 150th point of the season, recording two points in the opening frame against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, giving him 150 for the first time in his career.

McDavid, who sits at 63 goals and 87 assists through 80 games, assisted on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ first-period goal, and then scored one of his own near the end of the frame to grab his 150th point. He then scored again in the third period to make it 6-1, giving him his 151st point.

McDavid is the first player to hit the 150-point barrier since Mario Lemieux had 160 points with Pittsburgh during the 1995-96 season. He’s 27 points clear of Leon Draisaitl, who entered Saturday’s contest with 51 goals and 123 points with the Oilers. McDavid has led the NHL in scoring the past two years and is the clear favorite to win the Hart Trophy for the 2022-23 campaign. This is McDavid’s sixth year with at least 100 points, but just the first time with 60-plus goals.

The 26-year-old is just the fourth active player to score at least 60 goals in a season, joining Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos and Auston Matthews. McDavid is also the sixth NHLer to ever break the 150-point barrier, joining Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman, Phil Esposito and Bernie Nicholls. The five players have hit the mark a combined 17 times.

Gretzky, who holds the record for the most points in a season with 215 in 1985-86, has broken the 150-point barrier nine times, while Mario Lemieux did it four times.

The Oilers entered Saturday’s game against San Jose riding a six-game win-streak and a 9-0-1 record over the past 10 games. They were just three points behind Vegas for the Pacific Division lead. They’re also the second best team since Jan. 1 with a 27-7-8 record and 61 points. The Boston Bruins are the only team with a better record, going 33-8-1 with 67 points in 42 games.
