Getting drafted into not only one professional sports league, but two, is a major achievement for a multi-sport athlete.

Most recently, Dallas Stars prospect Angus MacDonell was drafted by the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) in the fourth round, No. 57 overall of the 2024 NLL Draft.

MacDonell suited up for 30 games with the Mimico Mountaineers of the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) where he tallied 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points.

The 19-year-old was selected by the Dallas Stars No. 189 overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.

The Toronto, Ontario native also appeared in 61 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) games with the Mississauga Steelheads, where he racked up 32 goals and 30 assists for 60 points. MacDonell added four points and 15 penalty minutes in five OHL Playoff contests.

Throughout his career, MacDonell has racked up 71 goals and 53 assists for 124 points and 224 penalty minutes in 181 games over four seasons with the Steelheads and Sarnia Sting.

Internationally, MacDonell represented Canada at the Under-18 Men’s World Championships where he tallied one goal and four assists for five points in seven games, capturing a bronze medal.

One NHL player who also had a chance to go pro in lacrosse is Stanley Cup champion and Seattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour. Montour played with the Six Nations Arrows of the OJLL and even won a Minto Cup, the equivalent of a Memorial Cup in junior hockey.
