
The Edmonton Oilers announced Friday that forward Evander Kane will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NHL regular-season.

“After further consultation with team medical staff, it has been determined that forward Evander Kane will not be ready to return to action for the remainder of the 2024-25 regular season,” the team said in a statement. “As a result, he will remain on LTIR (long-term injured reserve).
“Kane underwent successful abdominal surgery last September,” theHis rehabilitation continues to take place in Edmonton under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.”
The 33-year-old Kane has yet to play during the 2024-25 season. Last year, the forward had 24 goals and 20 assists for 44 points in 77 regular-season games with the Oilers. In 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games, Kane has four goals and four assists for eight points.
In 15 NHL seasons, Kane has 326 goals and 291 assists for 617 points in 930 career games with the Oilers, San Jose Sharks, Buffalo Sabres, Winnipeg Jets and Atlanta Thrashers.
In 76 career playoff games, Kane has 26 goals and 17 assists for 43 points.
Taken No. 4 overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the now-defunct Thrashers, Kane has produced two 30-goal seasons, one each with the Jets and Sharks.
The Oilers are 36-22-4 with 76 points, second in the Pacific Division with a goal differential of plus-18. They’re 4-6-0 in their last 10 games.
Forward Leon Draisaitl leads the team in points with 94, scoring 46 goals and 48 assists. Captain Connor McDavid isn’t far behind, producing 79 points through 23 goals and 56 assists in just 56 games.
Defenseman Evan Bouchard leads the blue line with 49 points, scoring 11 goals and adding 38 assists.
