Edmonton Oilers starting goaltender Stuart Skinner is set to return to action after missing the past seven games due to a head injury, reports Daily Faceoff’s Jason Gregor.

Sidelined since late March, Skinner has made 49 appearances with the Oilers this season in which he has put together a 24-18-4 record coupled with an .894 save percentage, 2.91 goals-against average, plus a pair of shutouts.

Originally chosen by the Oilers in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft, the 26-year-old Edmonton native has since played part of five seasons with the franchise in which he has established a 96-54-14 career mark alongside a .905 save percentage, 2.75 goals-against average, and six shutouts.

En route to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final before falling to the Florida Panthers in a seven-game set, Skinner closed out the prior postseason with 14 wins in 23 games while posting a .901 save percentage, 2.45 goals-against average, and one shutout.

In recent weeks, with Skinner sidelined, the Oilers turned to backup netminder Calvin Pickard who through six showings went 4-2-0 with a .901 save percentage and 2.83 goals-against average. On recall from the AHL affiliated Bakersfield Condors, 24-year-old goaltender Olivier Rodrigue also made his NHL debut where through two outings he went 0-1-0 with an .862 save percentage and 3.10 goals-against average.

For the Oilers, on the season the club sits 45-28-5 and two points back of the Los Angeles Kings for second place in the Pacific Division. The Oilers are on the cusp of punching their ticket to the postseason, a feat that will mark six straight years in which the club has participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Following a 4-3 regulation win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, the Oilers will shoot for their second consecutive victory when the club returns to the ice Friday against the divisional rival San Jose Sharks.
