The Utah Hockey Club are finally starting to turn things around. They now have wins in three straight, four of their last five, and six of their last eight, capped off with a 6-1 blowout of the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. It felt like this was due once the team got healthy, and now that they are, they are two points behind the Vancouver Canucks for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.

Jon Goyens joined Daily Faceoff Live to break down what’s been holding Utah back from a true run into the postseason so far this year.

Jon Goyens: Goals. Goals. Timely goals. They’ve got the skill set. I think Sean Durzi coming back into the lineup is a huge add. I think there’s a lot of teams that potentially regret not keeping him.

But I think he’s coming back at a very, very important time, because one area that has been consistent all year has been their power play. They’ve got a lot of guys. Some people might think they have a lot of similar players and maybe big guys that can’t score.

I think that’s false. I know Andre Tourigny, I’ve known him for a better part of 15 years. One thing that he sells and he gets the buy-in is you’re going to play a hard game, you’re going to play a 200 foot game, and everybody’s going to do it.

After that, the offense is up to you, but I think the biggest thing has been timely goals. Since Christmas, which is 26 games, in 14 games they’ve scored two or fewer goals. Two or fewer goals! And sure, last night they go up and put six, make me work a little harder to put this thing together this morning. But nonetheless, 14 games of two goals or less, that hurts.
