<p>The Carolina Hurricanes have signed defenseman <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/players/news/jaccob-slavin/2516" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jaccob Slavin</a> to an eight-year contract extension, according to Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli.</p>

<p>While there is no confirmation on the salary and cap hit at this time, Seravalli reports that it will be at $6.43 million per year.</p>



<p>Slavin, 30, is entering the final year of his seven-year contract with a $5.3 million cap hit that he signed with the Canes in the 2017 offseason. He receives a raise of $1.13 million, with his new contract being the highest of his career. <p>There are currently no details regarding any no-move/no-trade clauses or signing bonuses with this contract.</p>



<p>When his new deal kicks in next summer, Slavin will have the 35th-highest cap hit among defensemen next season. His closest cap hit comparables are <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/players/news/cam-fowler/16" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cam Fowler</a>, <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/players/news/hampus-lindholm/1947" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hampus Lindholm</a>, <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/players/news/justin-faulk/1651" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Justin Faulk</a>, <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/players/news/torey-krug/1887" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Torey Krug</a> and <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/players/news/colton-parayko/2531" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Colton Parayko</a>, who all have a $6.5 million cap hit.</p>



<p>Slavin had another excellent season at both ends of the ice, with 6 goals and 31 assists for 37 points in 81 games. That’s the second-highest total in his career, coming five points short of his 42-point season in 2021-22.</p>

<p>Slavin was a fourth-round pick of the Canes in the 2012 NHL Draft, eventually making his NHL debut in the 2015-16 season and establishing himself as a regular in the lineup. He’s gone on to play nine seasons in Carolina, with his new deal likely guaranteeing that he’ll play another nine down the road. He is a two-time winner of the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, winning the award in both 2020-21 and 2023-24.</p>
