It was a night of accomplishment for Toronto Maple Leafs right winger Mitch Marner.

Scoring his 27th goal of the season Tuesday versus the Atlantic Division rival Buffalo Sabres, the tally marked Marner’s 100th point of 2024-25, a new career high that also made him just the fourth player in Maple Leafs’ history to reach triple-digit production in a single season.

Former Maple Leafs captain Doug Gilmour holds the all-time mark with 127 points in 1992-93, topping Darryl Sittler’s showings of 117 and 100 points during the 1977-78 and 1975-76 campaigns, respectively. Gilmour also reached 111 points in 1993-94, while current Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews collected 106 points in 2021-22 and a career-high 107 points a year ago.

For Marner, the 27-year-old native of Markham, Ont., tops his previous career best of 99 points put up during the 2022-23 campaign, one of four seasons in which he has scored 90 or more points.

Originally chosen fourth overall by Toronto in the 2015 NHL Draft, Marner has since skated in nine seasons and 656 career contests with the Maple Leafs in which he has racked up 221 goals and 518 assists for 739 points, putting him fifth all-time in franchise scoring. To note, Marner has also added 11 goals and 39 assists for 50 points through 57 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

In the final year of a six-year pact that carries a $10,903,000 cap hit, the pending unrestricted free agent is anticipated to be the top available player this offseason, should he go to market. Earlier this month, Marner headlined Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli’s initial look at the pool of pending unrestricted free agents, with his next contract projected as high as $14 million per season.

With Tuesday’s victory over the Sabres, the Maple Leafs closed out the regular season with a 52-26-4 record to claim their first division title since 2000.
