At the time of publishing, the cap hit of the contract is not confirmed, as well as if there are any performance bonuses.
With Martin’s contract being a three-year entry-level deal, the Predators will have the option to let the first two seasons slide should he return to the Ontario Hockey League.
Martin was selected fifth-overall by the Predators in the 2025 NHL Draft, the team’s first draft choice of the draft. He’s the 12th player in the draft to already receive an entry-level contract, and the fifth selected in the top 10 to sign after Matthew Schaefer, Anton Frondell, Jake O’Brien and Radim Mrtka.
Martin earned his fifth-overall selection after taking big steps in his sophomore season with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, which saw him get 33 goals and 39 assists for 72 points in 57 games. This comes after he had just 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 52 games in his rookie season. His draft year performance was second on the Greyhounds in points after Tampa Bay Lightning 2025 seventh-round pick Marco Mignosa.
Martin also represented Canada at the U-18 Men’s World Championship, where he had three goals and eight assists for 11 points in seven games as Canada captured gold at the tournament. His 11 points were the fifth-most of the tournament, and the second-most on Canada after Vancouver Canucks 2025 15th-overall pick Braden Cootes.
Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis ranked Martin first in the Predators’ prospect system during his Prospect Pool Breakdown series. Ellis had this to say about Martin:
“I loved this pick because he plays a hard, no-nonsense game and tends to make everyone around him better. Martin played at more than a point per game in the OHL with the Greyhounds, serving as the team’s top young star. He was also one of the best players at both the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the U-18 World Championship. Away from the puck, he hits everyone in sight. He constantly battles hard for the puck and is a noted goal-scorer, too. Some might look at some of the points the Predators left on the board by taking Martin over, say, Porter Martone. But Martin has proven time and time again that he’s a battler who gives it his all every night and often comes out on top. He’s also much more skilled than people give him credit for.”
