<p>It has not been the start to the regular season that the <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/new-york-rangers/line-combinations/">New York Rangers</a> or <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/new-york-islanders/line-combinations/">New York Islanders</a> would have imagined, but as American Thanksgiving approaches, the question remains –- will New York City see Stanley Cup Playoff hockey come the spring?</p>



<p>Through 24 and 23 games, respectively, the Rangers sit bottom of the Metropolitan Division with 24 points, and the Islanders are in third with 28 points. It’s a close race, but neither face any certainty heading into the last few games in November.&nbsp;</p>



<p>On Tuesday’s episode of <strong><em><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkZX3x82x78">Daily Faceoff Live</a></em></strong>, hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton dove into the playoff potential of both New York City franchises.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Yaremchuk:</strong> I wanted to turn our attention to the New York area where Islanders and the Rangers. <p><strong>Hutton:</strong> This is a tough one, too. I’m going to go with the New York Islanders. I just think about the goaltending with Ilya Sorokin, where he’s at.</p>



<p>Igor Shesterkin is obviously good, but that Rangers team just doesn’t give me good vibes. It feels like the culture is bad there. I know JT Miller made a couple cool T-shirts, and he’s trying to sell those on his teammates, but he’s not performing well, right? I think the shot in the arm for me is there’s still enough older guys on the New York Islanders as insulated players. I think the Matthew Schaefer boost that this team has got is there, and I think Patrick Roy is going to melt this thing for all it’s worth to try to get this team in the playoffs.&nbsp;</p><div class="injected-ad" data-nn-ad-tech-injection-count="1" data-nn-ad-tech-max-gap="130" data-nn-ad-tech-current-gap="135"></div>
