<p>The <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/new-york-rangers/line-combinations">New York Rangers</a> have signed forward Conor Cherry to a professional tryout, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/25/sports/rangers-sign-conor-sheary-to-professional-tryout/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_source=twitter"><em>New York Post</em> reporter Mollie Walker</a>. </p>

<p>Sheary, 33, spent the majority of the 2024-25 campaign with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch, the minor league affiliate of the <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/tampa-bay-lightning/line-combinations">Tampa Bay Lightning</a>. In 59 AHL games, Sheary scored 20 goals and recorded 41 assists for 61 points. </p>



<p>On June 29, the Lightning placed Sheary on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. The Winchester, Mass., native had one year left on a. three-year, $6 million deal he signed ahead of the 2023-24 season. </p>



<p>It was Sheary’s first trip back to the AHL since 2015-16, when after spending parts of three seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, he was called up to the NHL by the <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/pittsburgh-penguins/line-combinations">Pittsburgh Penguins</a>, helping the team win two Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017. </p><div class="injected-ad injected-video" data-nn-ad-tech-injection-count="0" data-nn-ad-tech-max-gap="130" data-nn-ad-tech-current-gap="169"></div>



<p>Through 10 NHL seasons, Sheary has scored 124 goals and recorded 143 assists for 267 points in 593 career regular-season games with the Lightning, Penguins,<a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/buffalo-sabres/line-combinations"> Buffalo Sabres</a> and <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/washington-capitals/line-combinations">Washington Capitals</a>. He also has seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 72 Stanley Cup Playoff games. </p>



<p>In parts of four AHL seasons, Sheary has 47 goals and 95 assists for 142 points in 149 regular-season games with the Penguins and Crunch. He also has 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points in 25 career Calder Cup Playoff games. </p>



<p>The Rangers went 39-36-7 with 85 points in 2024-25, finishing fifth in the Metropolitan Division and six points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. <p><a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/new-york-rangers-fire-head-coach-peter-laviolette-associate-coach-phil-housley">New York fired head coach Peter Laviolette</a> on April 19, just two days after the regular season. On May 2, the team announced they hired former Penguins bench boss <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/new-york-rangers-mike-sullivan-nhl-coach">Mike Sullivan to a multi-year deal</a>. Sullivan had previously served as an assistant coach for the Rangers from 2009 to 2013. &nbsp;</p>
