<p><a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/pittsburgh-penguins/line-combinations">Pittsburgh Penguins’ </a>captain Sidney Crosby engraved his name even deeper into NHL history on Wednesday night, becoming the 10th player in NHL history to record 1,600 points.</p>

<p>Crosby hit the milestone mark assisting on a Bryan Rust goal in the first period, against the <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/buffalo-sabres/line-combinations">Buffalo Sabres.</a> The Penguins’ legend achieved the feat in the fifth-fewest games of any NHL great within the top-10.</p>

<p>Crosby is now just 41 points behind Joe Sakic for ninth on the all-time list. The 37-year-old future hall-of-famer will likely pass Sakic sometime around the half-way point of this season. <p>The three-time Stanley Cup champion is looking to lead the Penguins back into the playoffs, after a couple of disappointing seasons in Pittsburgh. The Penguins were 2-2-0 heading into Wednesday’s matchup against the Sabres, and are hopeful Crosby, along with his re-tooled supporting cast, can get the team back on track. Last season, the Penguins went 38-32-12 with 88 points, fifth in the Metropolitan Division and three points shy of the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Entering Wednesday’s matchup with the Sabres, Crosby had recorded three assists in the Penguins opening four games. Defying his age, Crosby continues to look like ‘Sid the Kid’, and continues to set the tone in Pittsburgh. Not only does he do it on the ice, Crosby is the ultimate team-guy off the ice, accepting much less than market value on back-to-back contract extensions, sticking with earning the infamous $8.7 million per season. </p><div class="injected-ad" data-nn-ad-tech-injection-count="1" data-nn-ad-tech-max-gap="130" data-nn-ad-tech-current-gap="152"></div>



<p>The Penguins came to terms with their captain on a two-year extension this past offseason. Crosby is signed through the 2026-27 season, and has shown no signs of slowing down, anytime soon. </p>
