PWHL Players of the Week: Vanisova, Jaques and Frankel steal the show

After the league took time off for the international break, fans were treated to seven games this week, with plenty of strong individual performances.

This week, we saw a hat trick, some offense on the blue line and a shutout performance from one of the league’s best in this week’s Daily Faceoff PWHL Players of the Week.

Tereza Vanisova started the season with plenty of offense, scoring three goals and three assists for six points through the team’s first six games. However, the Charge forward went pointless in her next seven.

But since Jan. 29, Vanisova has been all over the ice with opportunity after opportunity, burying one against the Victoire, then having a career night against the Frost last Thursday, scoring three goals and finishing with six shots on net in an 8-3 win against Minnesota.

Vanisova’s hat trick fuelled a historic offensive night for the Charge, turning into the highest-scoring game in league history and the most goals scored by a team in a single game.

Vasinova now has seven goals and three assists for 10 points, leading Ottawa in both goals and points.

Sophie Jaques (D, Minnesota Frost)

Since being acquired by the Frost last season, Sophie Jaques has been one of the league’s most productive defenders, scoring 10 points in 15 games last season with Minnesota and now producing at a point-per-game pace in 2024-25.

This week, the Ohio State Buckeye alumnus had two goals and three assists in three games for the Frost, including two two-point performances against the Sceptres and Fleet. The results weren’t what Minnesota was hoping for, losing all three games and earning just one of a possible nine points, but Jaques, now fourth on the team in scoring despite missing five games with injury, is still producing at a high rate.

Boston Fleet goaltender Aerin Frankel
Aerin Frankel (PWHL)

Aerin Frankel (G, Boston Fleet)

Despite having one of the best save percentages and goals against averages in the league, Aerin Frankel hadn’t earned a shutout in her first 10 games. That changed last Wednesday when the U.S. national team goaltender stopped 25 shots to help Boston earn the 4-0 win over the Sirens.

Frankel made another 25 saves in a 3-1 losing effort to the Sirens a few days later, meaning she stopped 50 of 53 shots this week.

Frankel is now 7-4-1-1 with a .928 save percentage and 1.97 goals against average in 12 contests this season, continuing the dominance she displayed throughout the league’s first regular season and playoff season.
