The San Jose Sharks have reportedly interviewed a pair of up-and-coming coaches to fill the void left by Bob Boughner behind their bench.

According to SJ Hockey Now‘s Sheng Peng, the Sharks have spoken to Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach Spencer Carbery and Chicago Wolves head coach Ryan Warsofsky about their head coaching position.

Peng noted that former New York Rangers head coach David Quinn and current Boston Bruins assistant coach Joe Sacco are also candidates to become the 11th head coach in Sharks history.

Carbery, 40, joined the Maple Leafs in 2021 to run the team’s power play, which converted at an eye-popping 27.27 percent rate last season. Before moving to Toronto, Carbery spent three seasons as the head coach of the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears.

Warsofsky, 34, has served as the head coach of the Wolves for the past two seasons, leading them to a Calder Cup victory over the Springfield Thunderbirds mere weeks ago. The North Marshfield, Massachusetts product would become the youngest active head coach in the NHL (and one of the youngest in league history).

The Sharks fired Boughner, 51, and three assistant coaches on July 1. After replacing Peter DeBoer as head coach midway through the 2019–20 season, the longtime NHL defenseman led the Sharks to a 67–85–23 record and zero playoff appearances in his three seasons against the bench.
