<p>The <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/san-jose-sharks/line-combinations">San Jose Sharks</a> have agreed to terms on a new one-year, two-way contract with defenseman Jack Thompson, the club announced Monday morning.</p>



<p>Thompson, 23, split the 2024-25 season between the Sharks and the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. The 6’1″ righty collected four goals and 10 points while averaging 15:47 of ice time in 31 games with the Sharks.</p>



<p>“Jack is a strong skater with two-way potential,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said in a statement on Monday. “We look forward to his continued progression within the organization.”</p>



<p>The Sharks did not disclose the financial terms of Thompson’s new contract, but PuckPedia <a href="https://x.com/PuckPedia/status/1944814317913956793">reported </a>that it carries an $800,000 cap hit at the NHL level and also includes $125,000 in guaranteed money.</p>

<p>A third-round pick (No. 93 overall) of the <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/tampa-bay-lightning/line-combinations">Tampa Bay Lightning </a>in 2020, Thompson spent his junior career with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves and Soo Greyhounds before turning pro full-time with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch in 2022-23.</p><div class="injected-ad injected-video" data-nn-ad-tech-injection-count="0" data-nn-ad-tech-max-gap="130" data-nn-ad-tech-current-gap="162"></div>



<p>Thompson made his NHL debut with the Lightning the following year before being sent to the Sharks in a 2024 trade deadline deal that saw Anthony Duclair head the other way. The Courtice, Ontario product skated in two more games with the Sharks to conclude the 2023-24 campaign before becoming more of a regular fixture in their lineup this past season.</p>



<p>With Thompson now under contract for the 2025-26 season, the Sharks only have one RFA of note left to deal with this summer: Daniil Gushchin, a 5’8″ winger who scores a lot in the AHL but has done relatively little in the NHL.</p>



<p>Thompson is expected to compete for ice time next season on a Sharks blue line that adds John Klingberg, Nick Leddy, and Dmitry Orlov while returning Mario Ferraro, Timothy Liljegren, Vincent Desharnais, and Shakir Mukhamadullin — with top prospect Sam Dickinson also knocking on the door.</p><div class="injected-ad" data-nn-ad-tech-injection-count="1" data-nn-ad-tech-max-gap="130" data-nn-ad-tech-current-gap="150"></div>
