The Tampa Bay Lightning have waived forwards Cam Atkinson and Logan Brown, reports TSN’s Chris Johnston.
Through 36 appearances with the Lightning this season, Atkinson has scored three times and added five assists for eight points coupled with 11 penalty minutes and a minus-three rating. Skating in his first season with Tampa Bay, Atkinson signed a one-year, $900,000 deal with the Lightning after being bought out by the Philadelphia Flyers.
Originally chosen in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Atkinson has seen 806 career contests counting stops with the Blue Jackets, Flyers, and Lightning in which he has recorded 252 goals and 236 assists for 488 points. With the Blue Jackets in 2018-19, Atkinson reached a career-high 69 points counting 41 goals and 28 assists coming in 80 games. The 35-year-old native of Riverside, Conn., has also added 26 points counting 10 goals and 16 assists through 35 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
For Brown, the 26-year-old native of Raleigh, N.C., has spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Syracuse Crunch, the Lightning’s AHL affiliate. Through 25 appearances with the minor-league club, Brown has notched seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points alongside 14 penalty minutes and a minus-two mark.
Tuesday’s transaction comes after Brown agreed to a $775,000 prorated deal for the balance of the 2024-25 campaign, reports Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli. Brown had previously been playing on an AHL-only contract, but is now eligible to be recalled by the Lightning should he clear waivers.
Selected 11th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2016 NHL Draft, Brown has totaled 99 career contests split between the Senators and St. Louis Blues in which he has registered seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points.
For the Lightning, the club sits 35-21-4 on the season to hold down third place in the Atlantic Division with 74 points. The Lightning have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the past seven seasons.
