<p>With Mitch Marner’s contract set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 NHL regular season, rumours have swirled over how the Toronto Maple Leafs plan to move forward with their star winger. </p>



<p>On Saturday, <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/sources-hurricanes-asked-for-maple-leafs-marner-in-rantanen-deal/"><em>Sportsnet’s </em>Elliotte Friedman reported </a>the Leafs were in deep negotiations with the Carolina Hurricanes for Mikko Rantanen, who ended up being dealt to the Dallas Stars. </p>

<p>Friedman says the Hurricanes asked for Marner as part a possible deal involving Rantanen, and that the Leafs approached Marner about a potential exchange, but he declined to waive his full no-movement clause.</p>



<p>After Toronto’s Saturday night game to the Colorado Avalanche, one they loss 7-4, with Marner recording two goals, reporters asked the Leafs’ leading scorer his thoughts on being asked to waive his no-movement clause. </p><div class="injected-ad injected-video" data-nn-ad-tech-injection-count="0" data-nn-ad-tech-max-gap="130" data-nn-ad-tech-current-gap="154"></div>

<p><em>The Hockey News’</em> David Alter says Marner didn’t want to answer any questions about his contract status. </p>



<p>This season, the 27-year-old Marner has 21 goals and 58 assists for 79 points in 62 regular-season games. He is currently on pace to eclipse the 100-points mark for the first time in his career. </p>

<p>After Saturday’s loss, the Leafs are 38-22-3 with 79 points. They have now lost three straight. </p>
