The Boston Bruins made their first move at the trade deadline, sending pending unrestricted free agent Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers in return for a second and fourth round pick. The Bruins are only two points out of a wild card spot, but with 2-3 more games played than everyone else, and their current slump losing seven of their last eight games, it feels like more and more of a longshot and made sense to sell.
Frank Seravalli talked about what’s next for the Bruins as Friday’s trade deadline approaches on Daily Faceoff Live.
Frank Seravalli: I think Brazeau is definitely still in the mix. I don’t think they’re going to be coming to terms with him on a new deal. He’s got size. He’s got interest.
I think the Marchand injury complicates things a little bit. He’s not insanely far away from a return, but if you’re adding a guy that might only be there for a playoff run, deleting two or potentially three weeks off of that is less than ideal. So I still think the Bruins want to make an attempt to to re-sign Brad Marchand, and you’re going to see here in these next couple of days. Outside of that, unless someone really comes and knocks their socks off, I don’t know how much more there really is to sell.
So Frederic just made sense on so many levels. Again, he was a guy that they weren’t going to come to terms with. The fact that he’s injured and is going to be out for a couple more weeks at least, he’s not really helping their playoff push and there’s not even a sell to keep him. And you see another game like last night, I don’t know that there’s that many believers at Boston.
