Vejmelka is currently dealing with an illness.
Cooley is still day to day.
Tourigny announced that Vejmelka is currently dealing with an illness. His status for Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings is up in the air, although with there still being a few days until the game, there’s a good chance that he’ll recover from the illness in time.
Vejmelka has been having an excellent season for Utah, and has been a big reason why they’ve stuck around in the playoff race up to this point. Through 34 games, Vejmelka has a 13-15-4 record, a .909 save percentage, one shutout and 17.33 goals saved above expected, with the latter stat ranking 7th among all goalies this season.
Tourigny also mentioned that Cooley’s status has now improved to day-to-day. Cooley had missed Utah’s final six games before the 4 Nations Face-Off break with a lower-body injury, and was originally said to be out indefinitely. There appears to be a low chance that he’s healthy in time for Saturday’s game, but he should likely return within the next couple weeks.
Cooley has been having a strong sophomore season with Utah, as in just 50 games, he has 15 goals and 28 assists for 43 points. That’s only one point shy of the 44-point total he achieved in his rookie season last year, so he’s easily improved already.
Utah currently sits in fifth in the Central Division with a 24-23-9 record, and are six points behind the Vancouver Canucks for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Utah will look to build off of their stretch of three wins in four games before the break when they visit the Kings in Los Angeles on Saturday at 7 p.m. MST.
