We’ve reached the eventful final stretch of the NHL season. So what’s at stake across the three-game slate for Sunday, April 6?



– Is today the day? Alex Ovechkin thrilled the Washington Capitals faithful with a two-goal Friday night, tying Wayne Gretzky for the all-time NHL lead in goals at 894. He has six games left to break the record this season, and his Caps visit the New York Islanders for a hotly anticipated matinee Sunday.



– The <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/washington-capitals/line-combinations">Washington Capitals</a> (49-18-9) can clinch the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference if they defeat the New York Islanders in any fashion today. – The <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/pittsburgh-penguins/line-combinations">Pittsburgh Penguins</a> (31-34-12) Will be eliminated from the playoffs if (a) they lose to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday OR the Montreal Canadiens collect a single point or more against the Nashville Predators on Sunday.<div class="injected-ad injected-video" data-nn-ad-tech-injection-count="0" data-nn-ad-tech-max-gap="130" data-nn-ad-tech-current-gap="189"></div>



– The <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/buffalo-sabres/line-combinations">Buffalo Sabres</a> (33-36-6) also face elimination on Sunday. They’re mathematically out if (a) they lose to the Boston Bruins in regulation AND the Canadiens beat the Predators.
