Ottawa Senators’ forward Tim Stutzle has been one of the game’s more productive players in the last three seasons, recording a career-high 90 points in 2022-23 and 70 points last season. Now in his fifth full NHL campaign, the 2020 No. 3 overall pick is humming along with 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points.
The Senators now have a 19-15-2 record with 40 points, currently holding on to the No. 2 Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. There’s still half a season to go, but this is as good as Ottawa has played in a number of years, and it may lead to them clinching their first Stanley Cup Playoff birth since their Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 2017.
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the German forward’s good start and whether he’ll become the NHL’s next first-time 100-point player.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Who is one player whose stock you’re buying going into the new year?
Frank Seravalli: Tim Stutzle of the Ottawa Senators. So supremely talented, I truly believe that what we’re seeing with him, he’s just starting to scratch the surface. I think he’s, in relative short oder, will be the next 100-point player to break through. I know there’s still quite a bit of work to get to that point, but I think he’s evolved in a real meaningful way, and I think the Sens have, as well.
I think Ottawa can break through and be a playoff team this year. They entered the new year in a playoff position, and they’re in a pretty good spot … and Stutzle would be leading the charge. I think he’s still got a ways to go before hitting his ceiling.
