After just six AHL games, Boqvist was called up and the 2018 No.8 overall pick will make his NHL debut in Los Angeles. The 19-year-old defenseman will play on the top pair with Duncan Keith at even-strength and on the second power-play unit.
Boqvist was the No.8 overall pick in 2018 and has registered just one goal in six games with Rockford this season. He is an under-sized, offensive-minded defenseman that had 60 points (20G / 40A) in 54 games with the London Knights (OHL) last season. The Blackhawks continue to make a commitment to younger players, as Boqvist's promotion comes one day after they said Kirby Dach will remain with the team.
The Blackhawks picked Boqvist with the No.8 overall pick in this summer’s draft. The dynamic offensive defensman was unable to crack the opening night roster, so he heads to London for his first season in North America—he played in Sweden last year.
Boqvist doesn’t have great size, but is one of the most offensively-gifted blueliners in this draft class. Boqvist has great wheel and loves rushing the puck, looking more like a forward than a defenseman. During his time in Sweden’s top league this season, Boqvist had just one assist in 15 games.
