With Carey Price out with the flu, Niemi will make his first start of 2018-19. Niemi struggled the early part of 2017-18, but was strong in a Canadiens uniform, going 7-5-4 with a 2.46 GAA and .929 SV% in 17 starts and two relief appearances. As solid as he was with Montreal last year, he is a terrible option tonight vs. the Penguins.
Following a disastrous start to the 2017-18 season with the Penguins and Panthers, Niemi settled in in Montreal. The veteran netminder went 7-5-4 with a 2.46 GAA, .929 SV% and one shutout in 17 starts and two relief appearances with the Canadiens. He will likely be back as the Habs’ primary backup behind Carey Price next season.

The Canadiens will hope he can build off it moving forward as he’s in line to see the lion’s share of the starts while Carey Price (concussion) remains sidelined. Unfortunately, he draws arguably the worst matchup on the slate tonight against the Lightning.
Niemi was lit up for three goals on six shots in a 6-3 loss to the Golden Knights on Saturday. He now sports an unappealing 4.18 GAA and .880 SV% on the season. He draws a pretty good matchup at home tonight against the Rangers.
