Bishop allowed one goal on 17 shots in a win over the Canadiens on Monday. He was given Tuesday night off, so it is no surprise to see him back in the crease tonight in Vancouver. He is 2-0-1 with a 1.61 GAA and .931 SV% in his first three starts this season, get him in your lineup.
Bishop allowed two goals on 34 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Senators on Saturday. The loss moved Bishop to 1-0-1 with a 1.91 GAA and .927 SV% through two starts. It is a good start to the season for the 27-year-old. Tonight he gets the call against the Canadiens, who he was 3-0-1 with a 0.94 GAA and .962 SV% against last season.
Bishop stopped 19 of 21 shots and assisted on the game-winning goal in the Lightning's 3-2 OT win over the Panthers on Thursday. Bishop picked up right where he left off last season and should make for a great start against his former team (Ottawa) tonight on home-ice.
Bishop had a sensational season in 2013-14. He won 37 games with a 2.23 GAA, .924 SV% and five shutouts. He was injured prior to the playoffs and underwent wrist surgery in April, but is at 100% to start 2014-15 and should be in for another excellent season. The Lightning have a ton of firepower, so the 6-foot-7 netminder should have plenty of goal support.
Bishop, 27, went 37-14-7 with a 2.23 GAA (7th in the NHL) and .924 SV% (6th) with the Lightning last season. It was by far his best season of his five-year career. He underwent wrist surgery in April, but he should be ready for the start of the 2014-15 season. He is just outside the group of elite goaltenders, but should still be a top-30 pick in September.
The exact extent of the injury and recovery will be known following surgery tomorrow. Bishop missed the entire first round with the injury, which was originally believed to be to his elbow. The Lightning were swept, but it likely would have been an entirely different series had Bishop been healthy. He had a breakout campaign this season, look for him to build off of it in 2014-15.
The injury would appear to justify Bishop's poor second half of the season making him a legitimate keeper for next season.
Lindback will continue to start while Bishop is on the mend.
Bishop still is not facing shot in practice, but he was in goal while coaches threw pucks on goal. Bishop does not appear very close to returning to the Lightning crease. Consider him very doubtful for game 2.
Bishop missed the final three games of the regular season after suffering an arm injury last Tuesday vs. the Maple Leafs. This is a huge blow for the Lightning, and Bishop must be extremely disappointed after he won 37 games with a 2.23 GAA and .924 SV% this season. This leaves Anders Lindback to get the nod vs. Montreal.
As far as the Lightning are concerned, Bishop has no structural damage to his elbow. That is "encouraging" news said head coach Jon Cooper and he did not rule out Bishop playing "at some point" in the first round of the playoffs. Still, it doesn't seem likely Bishop will be there at the start, and there is no timetable other than he will be re-evaluated in five or six days.
Bishop left the game late in the first period while attempting to snag a loose puck, Bishop appeared to get his legs tangled up, and wound up crashing to the ice, landing on his left wrist. With the playoffs right around the corner, the Lightning are hoping this injury is nothing more than a day-to-day thing.
Bishop gave up five goals on 28 shots in a loss to the Stars on Saturday. All of a sudden Bishop is having a hard time keeping the puck out of his net. He has won eight of his last 14 starts, despite posting a 2.74 GAA and .901 SV%. He is still collecting the W's, but needs to be more steady if the Lightning are going to do any damage in the playoffs.
