Brendan Smith News
Smith will be a healthy scratch in Game 1.

Smith was a healthy scratch in the season finale after taking a delay of game penalty from the bench in the Red Wings OT loss to the Canadiends on March 9th. It looks like he is still in Mike Babcock’s doghouse, so he will sit in Game 1 while Alexey Marchenko makes his playoff’s debut.

Smith (arm) will be a game-time decision on Saturday afternoon.

Smith left Thursday’s game in San Jose with an arm injury after being slew-footed by Logan Couture. Couture was fined for the play yesterday, but it may cost Smith a game because he is questionable for today’s contest vs. the Predators. Xavier Oullet has been recalled and will play if Smith can’t.

The Red Wings have activated Brendan Smith (hand) from IR and he will play Sunday.

Smith has missed the last five games with a hand infection he suffered in a fight with Nick Foligno. With Smith being activated, the Red Wings have assigned Xavier Ouellet to Grand Rapids. Smith has six points (2G / 4A) in 18 games this season.

The Red Wings have placed Brendan Smith (hand) on the seven-day IR.

Smith has an infection in his hand following a fight with Nick Foligno on Tuesday night. He had already been ruled out of Thursday's game, but it seemed possible that he would be able to join the team in Toronto. Now that he has been placed on IR he won't be eligible to play until next Wednesday vs. the Flyers.

Smith will move to forward vs. Toronto tonight.

With all the injuries in Detroit, they are desperate and have resulted to moving D-men up front. Smith says that he has not played forward since he was 15/16 and playing AAA on a line with Sam Gagner and John Tavares. Unfortunately for him, his linemates are likely going to be Cory Emmerton and Teemu Pulkkinen, a small step-down from Gagner and Tavares I'd say.

Smith (shoulder) returns to the Red Wings lineup tonight.

Smith missed the last six games, in which the Red Wings went 0-5-1. Smith has had a slow start to the season with just one assist and a minus-7 rating in 11 games. He will dress as the Red Wings seventh defensman vs. the Predators tonight. He has no fantasy value until he starts putting numbers on the stat sheet.

Smith (shoulder) expects to play on Tuesday.

Smith has missed the last six games after suffering a shoulder injury on November 2. Once considered a top-prospect with loads of offensive upside, Smith had just eight assists in 34 games last season and has only recorded a single assist with a minus-7 rating in 11 games this year. The Red Wings may dress seventh defensemen tomorrow, so it is unknown where Smith will slot in.
