Brent Burns News
Sharks defenseman Brent Burns is skating again, but did not offer a timeline as to when he could return to the lineup.

Burns continues to rehab, but when he will be back on the ice is unknown. The Sharks are on a tear right now so I don't foresee them rushing Burns back and risk him re-injuring himself. For now just monitor his status going forward, and pick him up accordingly if he is still available.

"The doctors are still evaluating him," the coach said. "I know he doesn't feel good, and I would doubt that he's going to play for us tomorrow. It's knee on knee, he doesn't return, and he's not walking very well."

Expect Burns to miss at least tonight's game. In his first season with the Sharks, the Ajax, Ontario native has seven goals and 17 points through 46 games.

I thought he played well,” McLellan said. “He defended well, and that’s the most important thing. I thought he created some pretty good offensive plays as well in five-on-five situations. He looked much more comfortable on the power play than he did throughout the exhibition season.

Burns was apparently nervous in his first game with the Sharks but still finished with an assist. Look for him to approach career highs in his first season in teal, especially if he develops chemistry with the rest of his linemates.

Burns -- the single most significant acquisition of the offseason -- will start camp alongside Marc-Edouard Vlasic, rounding out a top four

Back when the Sharks traded for Burns we argued his lack of value could derive from not playing top-pairing minutes. While we remain highly bullish on the talented Burns, his value will not exponentially rise until he receives those minutes as he essentially upgrades Jason Demers.
