Brett Pesce (lower body) will not travel to Tampa on Tuesday and will miss a second-straight game.

Pesce did not play on Saturday due to a lower-body injruuy and will remain out for Tuesday's contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning after not traveling with the team. After registering a career-best 30 points (5G / 25A) in 82 games in the 2022-23 season, Pesce has had a nice start to 2023-24 with two points (1G / 1A) in five games. Jalen Chatfield will likely remain in the lineup until Pesce can return.

Pesce will obviously miss the rest of the 2020 season, including playoffs, and turn his focus to getting ready for training camp 2021. The Hurricanes will have to try and navigate through the playoffs without two of their top-3 defensemen but they added Brady Skjei at the deadline to help ease the loss of Pesce.

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour met with the media on Monday and told reporters that none of their recent injuries are "short term." With Pesce set to miss some time, the Hurricanes could be in the market for a defenseman before today's trade deadline.

Pesce was hurt midway through Saturday's win over the Maple Leafs and did not return. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour did not have a good update on the 25-year-old defenseman, leaving them without two of their top-4 defenseman for an extended period of time. With the trade deadline on Monday, this injury could change how the Hurricanes operate in the next 24 hours.

Pesce is listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury that he suffered against the Red Wings on Saturday. Pesce was reportedly injured in a knee-on-knee collision, but is not expected to be sidelined long-term. With Pesce out, Trevor van Riemsdyk will draw back into the lineup on Monday.
