MacDonald was acquired from the Avalanche on Wednesday and will make his debut Friday in Carolina. It's unclear who MacDonald will replace in the lineup because the Sharks reportedly have a couple of players under the weather.

MacDonald was dealt alongside Martin Kaut in a deal with the San Jose Sharks that saw Ryan Merkley and Matthew Nieto go the other way.

MacDonald will replace Jaycob Megna in the lineup and may take shifts at both forward and defence. MacDonald has no points and a minus-1 rating in four games this season.

Samuel Girard is banged up, so MacDonald being recalled is an indication that Girard will not be available on Tuesday. MacDonald has had a hot start in the AHL, scoring one goal with three assists (four points) in four games.

It will be MacDonald's first game since April 14th, as he replaces Dan Renouf in the lineup in San Jose. MacDonald has tallied one goal with six assists (seven points) in 29 games this season.

The two-game suspension means that MacDonald will not be available for Friday or Sunday's games in Anaheim. With MacDonald out, look for Daniel Renouf to draw back into the lineup.

MacDonald has been a healthy scratch for the last three games but will replace Conor Timmins in the lineup on Friday. MacDonald has one goal in six career NHL games.

MacDonald spent the entire 2019-20 season in the AHL, picking up 16 goals with 26 assists (42 points) in 56 games. His 42 points led all Colorado (AHL) defensemen and was fourth among all AHL blueliners.

MacDonald had one goal in two games with the Panthers last year but spend most of the season in Springfield (AHL). The 26-year-old led all Thunderbirds’ defensemen in goals (14) and points (43) in 72 games. MacDonald is likely headed to the AHL to start 2020 as well.
