Reimer will start the tail-end of a back-to-back for the Red Wings on Saturday, his first start since February 25th. With Ville Husso (personal) not travelling with the Red Wings to their Global Series event, James Reimer will take the crease Thursday as Detroit takes on Ottawa. The 35-year-old veteran netminder will be leaned on heavily by the Red Wings if Husso is out for long, and has a 2-2-1 record, .933 SV%, 1.80 GAA and 1 shutout this season. He takes on the Ottawa Senators, who have won two of their last three games and are third in the NHL in goals per game (3.85) and seventh in shots per game (33.0).

Reimer has served as the backup to Ville Husso in the Red Wings' last two games but will return to the crease on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens. In four starts this season (2-2-0), Reimer has only one sub-.900 SV% outing and has been reliable between the pipes, registering a 1.52 GAA and .944 SV% along with one shutout. The Red Wings have followed up an early-season five-game winning streak by losing five of their last seven (2-4-1) but look poised for a strong performance against a Canadiens team amid a four-game losing streak (0-3-1).

Reimer has been terrific in limited action this season, posting a 1.68 GAA and .939 SV% in three games (2-1-0) and will get the nod in between the pipes on Thursday against the Florida Panthers. Reimer has never finished a season with a sub-2.31 GAA so this is unfamiliar territory for the veteran netminder and is likely unsustainable going forward. The Red Wings are +106 home underdogs against a Panthers team that is 4-3-1 to start the season.

Reimer, who has a sparking 1.00 GAA and .963 SV% in two games (2-0-0), will return to the crease for the Red Wings on Thursday and hope to build on his terrific start to the season. This will mark Reimer's second start in the Red Wings' last three games. Albeit a very small sample size, Reimer has outperformed starting goaltender Ville Husso and could be in line for more starts if he can continue shutting the door for the Red Wings. The Red Wings will look to rebound after losing for the first time in six games (5-0-1) against a Winnipeg Jets team that is 3-3-0 to start the season.

After having Ville Husso tend the crease for the first two games, the Red Wings will turn to newcomer James Reimer for the third game of the season. Reimer spent last season on a very poor San Jose Sharks team, where he recorded a 3.48 GAA and .890 SV% in 43 games (12-21-8). Reimer is now in the 14th year of his NHL career and will hope to match his career average of 2.87 GAA and .911 SV% this season with the Red Wings. The Red Wings enter today's matchup as a -130 road favourite against a Blue Jackets team that will be without their starting goalie, Elvis Merzlinkins.

Reimer was 12-21-8 with a .890 SV% and 3.48 GAA with San Jose in 2022-23 and has signed a one-year contract worth $1.5 million with the Detroit Red Wings. The 35-year-old goaltender will join his fifth NHL team and brings a career 204-169-61 record, 2.87 GAA and .911 SV% to the Red Wings.

Reimer allowed six goals on 35 shots (.829 SV%) to snap a two-game winning streak as he was beaten by the Edmonton Oilers in his previous start. The 35-year-old has had a terrible season in 2022-23, with his 12-19-8 record, .893 SV% and 3.37 GAA. He will face the Winnipeg Jets, who have won three of their last four games but are 21st in the NHL in goals per game (2.97).

Reimer was perfect in his last start, stopping 41 of 41 shots for his third shutout of the season as he blanked the Winnipeg Jets in his previous start. The 35-year-old has had a year to forget in 2022-23, with his 11-18-8 record, 3.31 GAA and .895 SV%. He takes on the Vegas Golden Knights, who had a four-game winning streak snapped by a 7-4 loss to Edmonton last game.
