Getting back onto the ice is the first step for JVR. He did not practice with linemates and remains very doubtful for Friday's tilt.
Holmgren added that JVR is a "longshot" to play on Friday.
If you own JVR, continue to keep him on the bench for the team's short week. The Middletown, New Jersey native has eight goals and 16 points over 20 games with the club.

Despite getting held without a point, JVR finished with seven shots on goal. His demotion to the third line is likely more indicative of getting all of the three lines going.

The Flyers expect JVR to play his best hockey on the top line alongside Jaromir Jagr and Claude Giroux. Last season the 22-year-old scored 21 goals and 40 points over 75 games. Look for him to approach 30 goals in his third professional year.
As far as van Riemsdyk is concerned, he will most likely be shut down for the final three preseason games as a precaution. “There’s a chance [van Riemsdyk] could play Saturday, but we’ll probably be a little more careful with that,” said Holmgren.
