Leivo, 21, had a nice preseason and will likely be back with the Leafs at some point this season, but for now he heads back to the AHL where he had 23 goals and 19 assists (42 points) in 59 games last season.
Leivo has been battling a foot injury and will be held out of the season opener after having a great preseason. The Maple Leafs have yet to provide a timetable, but the injury is not expected to be serious and Leivo should be considered day-to-day.
Leivo appeared in seven games with the Maple Leafs in October, he recorded one goal and one assist. While in the AHL he had five goals and 12 points in 17 games.
Leivo was a minus-1 in 7:40 while replacing Joffrey Lupul last night.
With Joffrey Lupul potentially out tomorrow, the Maple Leafs have brought Leivo back as insurance. Leivo has one goal and one assist in six games with the Leafs.
Leivo will go back to the AHL because David Clarkson's 10 game suspension is over and he will return to the lineup on Friday.
