Quincey will miss his second straight game with what is believed to be a “minor” lower-body injury. Jakub Kindl played very well in Quincey’s absence on Saturday, so that could be playing a hand in the decision to hold Quincey out of tonight’s game.

Quincey missed practice on Friday, so his status for Saturday’s game is up in the air. The Red Wings recalled Jakub Kindl from his conditioning stint and he will play if Quincey can’t. Quincey’s injury is minor and he is not expected to miss much time.

The Red Wings have re-signed Kyle Quincey to a two-year deal worth $8.5 million.

After the Red Wings lost out on many free-agent defensemen earlier in the day, the Red Wings elected to bring back Quincey to shore up their blueline. The Red Wings D was ravaged by injuries last season, but Quincey was able to suit up in all 82 games, posting 13 points (4G / 9A) and a minus-5 rating.

Quincey injured his knee on Tuesday vs. Nashville and did not skate on Wednesday but will play tonight. He announced yesterday that he would be fine and was on the ice for the Red Wings optional skate this morning. With Danny DeKeyser out for 3-6 weeks, Quincey will take on an expanded role.

Tonight will mark his first time back at the Pepsi Center, and that at least assuages some of the frustration of having to wear a cage to protect the shattered right cheekbone he suffered March 15 when he was hit by a puck.

This week, doctors decided that the Red Wings’ defenseman, who suffered multiple facial fractures when struck in the face by a puck 10 days ago, would not heal any faster with surgery than without it.

Originally, the Red Wings thought they’d be without Quincey’s services for a minimum of a month. But that was before a final determination was made regarding surgery. Now that doctors have charted a course for recovery, Quincey could be back in the Wings’ lineup in 2-3 weeks.
