Barberio spent the first three seasons of his NHL career in Tampa Bay, but tonight he will face his former team in a Montreal Canadiens uniform. He had 20 points (2G / 18A) in 26 games with St. John’s (AHL) when he was called up.
Barberio will likely get a chance to face his former team tonight. The 25-year-old blueliner has collected two goals and 18 assists (20 points) in 26 games with St. John’s this season. He has 17 career points (6G / 11A) in 103 career NHL games.
Barberio has been a healthy scratch for the last four games, but he will get back into the lineup tonight for Radko Gudas. Barberio has no point in eight games this season.
This was expected after Barberio missed Friday's practice. Barberio has only appeared in eight games this season, so this is not a huge loss for the Lightning, especially with veteran Sami Salo returning to the lineup tonight.
Barberrio could be reassigned since Victor Hedman returned to action Saturday.
Barberio has eight goals and 32 assists in 70 games from the blueline in the AHL this season. He also put up 61 points in 74 games last season, so he can produce offensively. If he is given the minutes in Tampa Bay he should be able to put up some decent numbers, albeit for only 10 games.
