The Predators have recalled Matt Irwin from Milwaukee (AHL).

The Predators have been battling food poisoning, so they’ve recalled Irwin to serve as a seventh defenseman on their upcoming road-trip. The 28-year-old defenseman has one assist in four AHL games this season and 51 points (16G / 25A) in 155 career NHL games with the Sharks and the Bruins.

The Predators have signed Matt Irwin to a two-year, two-way contract.

Irwin, 28, was a player with 153 games of NHL experience heading into last season, but he was never able to maintain a roster spot with the Bruins, spending 64 games with Providence (AHL). During his season with Providence, Irwin collected 30 points (5G / 25A) but will likely start 2016-17 with Milwaukee (AHL).

The Bruins have placed Matt Irwin on waivers.

Irwin signed a one-year deal with the Bruins this offseason but has struggled through the first two games of the season. Irwin is a minus-5 while averaging 14:56 TOI. It wouldn’t be surprising if Irwin is claimed by another team--he had 19 points (8G / 11A) in 53 games with San Jose last year.

Irwin reportedly tweaked something while taking a shot at today’s practice. He was taken off of the ice as a precaution and will receive some treatment this afternoon. His status is uncertain for Saturday, so monitor his status tomorrow morning.

A healthy scratch for the last six games, Sharks defenseman Matt Irwin will return to the lineup against the Kings on Wednesday. “It’s just time to get him playing again. He shoots the puck a lot, he gives the power play a bit of a pop, and he’ll get that opportunity,” head coach Todd McLellan said. Irwin will be paired with Dan Boyle, while Justin Braun and Marc-Edouard Vlasic will reunite. The third pair will be Brad Stuart and Scott Hannan.
