The Stars have signed Mattias Janmark to a one-year contract extension worth $2.3 million.

Janmark, 26, took a step back in 2018-19, scoring just six goals with 19 assists (25 points) in 81 games. Janmark is a key penalty killer for the Stars, ranking third among forwards in shorthanded time on ice per game (1:30). During Dallas’ playoff run, Janmark had one goal and two assists (three points) while appearing in seven of their 13 playoff games.

Janmark (ankle) will be a game-time decision in Game 3.

Janmark played just 6:31 TOI in Game 2 before leaving the game with an ankle issue. Janmark missed the morning skate on Monday but is expected to take warmups and is considered a game-time decision. Janmark, who had just 25 points in the regular season, has just one shot and four PIMS through two games in the postseason.

Janmark (illness) is expected to be back in the Stars lineup on Sunday.

Janamrk was a late scratch from Friday’s game vs. the Ducks but he was back on the ice for today’s morning skate and is expected to play in Pittsburgh. Janmark, who will start the game on a line with Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov, has 17 goals and 15 assists (32 points) in 67 games this season.

Janmark will undergo knee surgery and miss 5-6 months.

Janmark is reportedly dealing with Osteochondritis dissecans and will undergo surgery on Friday afternoon. The Stars have been ravaged by injuries in training camp and this is a big loss for them. Janmark was expected to play an expanded role early in the season because Cody Eakin is currently sidelined with a knee injury of his own. Janmark may miss the entire season.
