Wood was a late scratch just before warmups Thursday and will miss his first game of the season due to an undisclosed injury. The 27-year-old has six goals and 11 points along with a +9 plus/minus across 23 games this season.

Wood made his season debut on March 27th after undergoing hip surgery and played just three games. With the Devils out of the playoff picture they are likely just playing it safe with Wood, to ensure he's 100 percent for next season.

Wood was held out of the lineup for the last two games as he works his way back from hip surgery. In his first two games of the season, Wood was pointless with a minus-1 rating, four PIMS and two shots on goal.

Wood played two games in a row after missing six months following hip surgery, so he'll just get an extra day off. The Devils have a back-to-back on Saturday/Sunday, so there's a chance Wood could be back in tomorrow.

Wood suffered a hip injury during a preseason game on October 4th. "After exhausting all conservative measures, and in consultation with team medical providers and external specialists, Miles has elected to receive surgery," the Devils said in a release.

Wood's lower-body injury landed him on IR on Monday but he remains "questionable" for the Devils' first game of the season. Monitor Wood's status as the week progresses and expect Marian Studnic and Jimmy Vesey to both get looks if he can't play.

Wood was forced to leave Thursday’s game vs. the Senators with an undisclosed injury but the Devils expect him to play vs. the Rangers. Wood tallied a goal and an assist in just 8:59 TOI before leaving the game and has now scored a goal in three straight contests and has 21 points (8G / 13A) in 54 games.

Wood was forced to leave Thursday’s game vs. the Islanders and will not play Saturday vs. the Wild. Wood, who will be replaced by Joey Anderson, is listed as day-to-day.

Wood missed the Devils last two games before their bye week but is expected to play Monday in Pittsburgh. Wood, who has 16 points (5G / 11A) in 45 games, is expected to skate on the second line with Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri.

Wood’s move to IR is retroactive to January 14th, which means he is eligible to return to the Devils’ lineup in the first game after their bye week.

Wood just wrapped up his first full NHL season with 19 goals and 13 assists (32 points) in 76 games. The 2013 fourth-round pick will be hard pressed to land a top-6 role in New Jersey but is a serviceable bottom-6 winger who brings some toughness to the Devils’ lineup.
