The Golden Knights struggled without Schmidt, going 8-11-1 during his 20-game suspension. The 27-year-old is coming off of a career-year, having scored five goals with 31 assists (36 points) in 76 games. He will likely replace Jon Merrill and play huge minutes on the Vegas top pair on Sunday.

Schmidt has not played yet this season because of a preseason suspension, but will return in a huge capacity on November 18th in Edmonton. During his first season with Vegas, Schmidt posted career-highs in goals (5), assists (31), points (36), shots (103), PPP (11) and time-on-ice (22:14 TOI/GM).

The Capitals re-signed Nate Schmidt to a two-year contract extension worth $1.625M.

Schmidt, 23, had four points (1G / 3A) in 39 games with the Capitals in 2014-15. In 19 games with Hershey he collected nine points (3G / 6A). He signed a one-way contract which suggests he might take Mike Green’s spot on the team. Green is expected to test free agency on July 1st.
