Ehlers missed Wednesday's practice and Thursday's morning skate because he's in COVID-19 protocol but head coach Paul Maurice did not rule him out for tonight's game. Ehlers is a game-time decision while the Jets hope he's cleared to play but Kristian Vesalainen will replace him if he can't go.
This does not mean that Ehlers has tested positive for COVID-19 but that he came in feeling unwell, got tested and was sent home. Expect the Jets to provide an update on Ehlers stats prior to their season-opening game vs. the Flames.
Ehlers was banged up late in Game 5 and is questionable for Game 6 in St. Louis. Par Lindholm is expected to dress and replace Ehlers if he is unable to play in a must-win game for Winnipeg.
Ehlers has been out since January 4th but will return to the Jets lineup Friday in Vegas. Head coach Paul Maurice did not disclosed who Ehlers will play with, but he returns to the lineup with 15 goals and 12 assists (27 points) in 40 games this season. Brendan Lemieux will sit as the healthy scratch.
Ehlers left Friday’s game in Pittsburgh with an upper-body injury and the evaluation did not go well. Head coach Paul Maurice announced on Saturday afternoon that Ehlers will miss approximately six weeks. Jack Roslovic moved into the Jets’ top-6 with Ehlers not on the ice for Saturday’s practice.
Ehlers is entering the final year of a three-year deal, so this new deal won’t kick in until 2018-19 and it runs through the 2024-25 season. The 21-year-old is coming off of a great sophomore campaign, having collected 25 goals and 39 assists (64 points) in 82 games. Ehlers is positioned for another great year as he’s poised to start the season with Patrik Laine and Bryan Little.
Ehlers will miss his 10th consecutive game tonight vs. the Canucks, but he is expected to play Thursday in Nashville. The Jets are currently without five of their full-time forwards, so Ehlers’ return will be welcomed with open arms. He has had a solid rookie season, recording 13 goals and 18 assists (31 points) in 63 games.
Ehlers is out with an eye injury that he suffered in Thursday’s loss to the Islanders. Ehlers was hit in the face by the puck and is out indefinitely. With Ehlers out, the Jets have recalled J.C. Lipon from Manitoba (AHL).
Ehlers, 19, was the Jets first round pick (9th overall) in last summer’s entry draft. He had 101 points (37G / 64A) in 51 games with Halifax this season. In the playoffs, he registered 31 points (10G / 21A) in 14 games before they were eliminated. Ehlers is not expected to play, but he has been recalled to get an off-ice feel of NHL playoff hockey.
Ehlers, 18, was selected ninth overall in the draft this summer. He has tremendous speed and an excellent wrist shot. He posted 49 goals and 55 assists (104 points) in 63 games with the Halifax Mooseheads last season. Ehlers was named the CHL's rookie of the year. He stands in at 5-foot-11, but needs to fill out (163 lbs.) to play in the NHL. He will probably return to juniors for one more season.
