Phil Di Giuseppe will be out 2-4 Weeks with a Lower-Body Injury

The Canucks' injury woes continued as General Manager Patrik Allvin spoke with the media Friday night and confirmed forward Phil Di Giuseppe will miss 2-4 weeks with a lower-body injury. It is a tough blow for the 28-year-old winger who was trying to crack the Canucks roster after having not played in the NHL since the 2020-21 season where he put up eight points in 31 games as a member of the New York Rangers. He enjoyed a strong 2021-22 campaign with the Canucks AHL affiliate in Abbotsford, collecting 12 goals and 36 points in 42 games.

The Rangers have signed Phil Di Giuseppe to a one-year contract.

Di Giuseppe was originally picked in the second-round by the Hurricanes back in 2012 but was waived last season and had a brief stint with the Nashville Predators. He has posted decent numbers at lower-levels but has just 41 points (14G / 27A) in 150 career NHL games. The 25-year-old will either start the season in the AHL or as a fourth-liner.

The Predators have claimed Phil Di Giuseppe off of waivers from the Hurricanes.

Di Giuseppe has been a healthy scratch for the last four games and has just four points (1G / 3A) in 21 games with the Hurricanes this season. The 25-year-old will be a depth forward for the Predators—he has 14 goals and 27 assists (41 points) in 147 career NHL games.

The Hurricanes have re-signed Phil Di Giuseppe to a one-year, $750K deal.

Di Giuseppe was in and out of the Hurricanes’ lineup last season but appeared in a career-high 49 NHL games, scoring five goals with eight assists (13 points). The 24-year-old likely won’t be a full-time player in 2019 either, but is an effective bottom-6 player when he gets plugged into the lineup.
