Sheahan, 24, had 14 goals and 11 assists (25 points) in 81 games in 2015-16. It was a down year for the 2010 first round pick considering he notched 36 points (13G / 26A) in 2014-15.
Sheahan missed yesterday’s game with an illness, but will be back in the lineup tonight vs. the Panthers. Sheahan has not scored in seven games and comes in with 13 points (7G / 6A) in 49 games this season. With Sheahan back in, Teemu Pulkkinen will be a healthy scratch.
Sheahan was scheduled to be back in the lineup on Tuesday, but he was scratched because of a setback. It was obviously only a minor setback because Sheahan has been cleared to return tonight vs. the Bruins. Sheahan will centre the Red Wings centre line with Darren Helm and Tomas Tatar on his wings.

Sheahan had been playing on the Red Wings second power-play unit, but he will switch spots with Darren Helm as the net-front presence on the Wings top-unit. Sheahan has just one assist through five games, but this move should help him pick up some power-play points in the short-term.

Sheahan has scored three goals while adding eight assists (11 points) in 18 games wit the Red Wings this season. He has displayed an impressive ability to be a productive playmaker at the NHL level in a short period of time with Detroit. The Red Wings will need their 2010 first round pick to continue to play well while Stephen Weiss and Henrik Zetterberg remain out of the lineup.
With the Red Wings missing Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm and Johan Franzen, they are in need of another centre, hence the recall of Sheahan. Sheahan recorded two assists in four games with the Red Wings, both came in a game vs. the Maple Leafs on December 21. He could find himself in the lineup in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Sheahan recorded his first two assists of his NHL career on Saturday vs Toronto, they were the only points he recorded in four games during his call-up.
Sheahan has six goals and eight assists in 23 games with Grand Rapids this season. He will skate on a line with veterans Todd Bertuzzi and Mikael Samuelsson.
Sheahan played just 6:47 in the Red WIngs loss yesterday.
Sheahan will make his Red Wings debut this season and it will be his second career NHL game. He has 35 points in 67 AHL games this season.
Wings coach Mike Babcock mentioned last week that he wanted to have a look at forward Riley Sheahan. He may get his chance Sunday. Sheahan was recalled from Grand Rapids on Saturday. He has 16 goals and 19 assists in 67 games with the Griffins this season.
In a surprise move, Sheahan gets a look in the season finale. He scored a goal and an assist in seven AHL games.
Sheahan is already playing for the Grand Rapid Griffins following three years at Notre Dame. The former 21st overall pick scored nine goals and 25 points through 37 games with his collegiate university.
