The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned defenseman Robert Bortuzzo to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on a conditioning assignment.

Bortuzzo will remain a member of the Penguins’ 23-man roster during his conditioning assignment. Bortuzzo, 24, has notched two points (1G-1A) and posted a plus-3 rating in 11 NHL games this season. He collected one goal, two assists, three points and 32 penalty minutes in 28 AHL games with WBS earlier this year.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have activated defenseman Robert Bortuzzo from injured reserve and re-assigned him to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

The rookie had no points in six games and loses all immediate fantasy hockey value by returning to the minors.

Following two seasons in the AHL, Bortuzzo was expected to compete for a roster spot. Last season, the former third rounder scored four goals and 26 points over 79 games with the Wikes-Barre/ Scranton Penguins. He could see playing time later in the season should the blue line sustain injuries.
