Ville Husso will start Saturday vs. Tampa Bay.

Husso is the confirmed starter on Saturday and will look to improve on his season-opening performance, in which he allowed three goals on 26 shots in a 4-3 loss to the high-flying New Jersey Devils. The competition won't get much easier for Husso as he and the Red Wings will face off against last year's eighth-best offence (3.41 goals/GM). In his four games against the Lightning last season (2-2-0), Husso played adequately, recording a 3.02 GAA and .909 SV%.

Tyler Motte will be out indefinetly with an upper-body injury.

Motte is dealing with an upper-body injury that will keep him out of the lineup indefinitely after playing 7:55 in the season opener for the Lightning. Injuries have been a recurring theme in Motte's career as he has only played more than 62 games once in his seven-year career. Alex Barre-Boulet has been recalled and could fill in for Motte in the interim.

Talbot will start against the Avalanche on Wednesday.

Talbot signed a one-year contract worth $1 million with the Kings during the offseason and will be their starter Wednesday as they take on Colorado in their season opener. The 36-year-old veteran is coming off an upsetting season in Ottawa which saw him post a 17-14-2 record, 2.93 GAA and .898 SV%. He will face the high-flying Colorado Avalanche, who finished 2022-23 10th in the NHL in goals for (274) and eighth in shots per game (33.3).

Cam Talbot
Campbell will start in Vancouver on Wednesday.

In three preseason games (3-0-0), Jack Campbel was lights-out with a 0.99 GAA and .971 SV% as he outperformed Stuart Skinner and seems to have secured the starting role in the Oilers' season-opener. The Oilers are listed as -154 road favourites against a Canucks team that ranked 13th offensively last season, averaging 3.29 goals per game. As was the case last season, and in the playoffs, the leash will likely be short for Campbell in the Oilers' crease if he is unable to string together consistent performances.

The Red Wings assigned Simon Edvinsson to Grand Rapids (AHL).

Edvinsson made his NHL debut last season, tallying two points (2G / 0A) in nine games with the Red Wings but will begin this year's campaign in the AHL. The former sixth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft will likely see some time in the NHL this season but, barring any injuries, is unlikely to be a regular in the lineup.

Simon Edvinsson
The Red Wings assigned Elmer Soderblom to Grand Rapids (AHL).

The 6'6 Swedish power-forward opened last season with the Red Wings, recording eight points (5G / 3A) in 21 games before playing the remainder of his season in the AHL. Soderblom will look to continue his growth and further adapt to the North American game as he begins his season with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Red Wings assigned Jonatan Berggren to Grand Rapids (AHL).

After an impressive first year in North America, scoring 64 points (21G / 43A) in 70 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL, Berggren became a regular in the lineup for the Red Wings last season where he recorded 28 points (15G / 13A) in 67 games. The talented winger will begin his campaign in the AHL but will likely make his way into the Red Wings roster at some point this season.

Jonatan Berggren
Simek (lower-body) is questionable for the Sharks' season opener.

Simek suffered a lower-body injury during a preseason game in late-September and is questionable to play in the season opener. Simek has yet to resume skating, which makes it seem unlikely that he'll be in the lineup vs. The Golden Knights next Thursday.

Radim Simek
The Lightning have signed Tyler Motte to a one-year deal worth $800K.

Motte had eight goals, 11 assists, 109 SOG, six PIMs, and a +3 plus/minus across 62 games played with Ottawa and the New York Rangers in 2022-23 and has signed a one-year deal worth $800,000. The Red Wings have acquired Jeff Petry from the Canadiens for Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional 2025 4th-round pick.

Petry was traded to the Canadiens as a part of the Erik Karlsson trade a couple of weeks ago, and 25 percent of his salary was retained then. Detroit getting him with an additional 50 percent retained means he'll come in at $2.344M AAV for the next two seasons. The 35-year-old is a Michigan native and is coming off a 31-point (5G / 26A) season, appearing in just 61 games for the Penguins.
