Petry, 27, is a strong two-way forward who is very good at breaking out of his own end. He is strong offensively as well, posting 15 points (4G / 11A) in 59 games with the lowly Oilers. He was a minus-25 in Edmonton, but that won’t be the case in Montreal. He will likely slot in on right side on the Habs second pair.
Sergei Bobrovsky was activated from IR yesterday and served as Curtis McElhinney's back-up, so there is a good chance that he could make his first start since January 21st.
Tonight is the Oilers final game before the trade deadline, so they will sit Petry opposed to playing him and risk him getting injured. He is expected to be dealt before the deadline.
Bobrovsky will dress for the first time since January 21st today vs. the Devils. He will serve as Curtis McElhinney’s backup today, but that is a great sign that he will be able to start on Sunday vs. the Penguins.
Bobrovsky skated again on Wednesday and the Blue Jackets believe that he is on track to start one of their two games this weekend. Curtis McElhinney has played very well in Bob’s absence though, so the Blue Jackets will not rush him if he is not 100 percent by Saturday or Sunday.
Petry has missed the last two games, but he had a good day of practice on Monday and is expected to play tomorrow vs. the Wild. Petry has four goals and 11 assists (15 points) in 58 games.
Kulikov served his four-game suspension and will play tonight in Pittsburgh. The Panthers went 2-1-1 without Kulikov, but should benefit from having him back on the blue line tonight. He has 16 points (2G / 14A) in 49 games.
Bennett, 18, has not played all season because of a shoulder injury. He has been skating with the Flames recently and is set to return to action, but that will happen in the OHL. Bennett had 91 points (36G / 51A) and 118 PIMS in 57 games with Kingston last season.
Bobrovsky will skate tomorrow morning, but will be scratched. Coach Todd Richards is hopeful that Bob will be back in the lineup next week.
Petry was in the morning skate, but will be held out of tonight’s game vs. Wild. Petry is in contract talks with the Oilers, but has also been the subject of trade talks, so the Oilers won’t want risk Petry injuring himself further.
