Kahkonen has been loaned to the Colorado Eagles (AHL) on a conditioning assignment.

Kahkonen has not played a game in the AHL since the 2019-20 season. The 28-year-old Kahkonen had a poor 2023-24 campaign split between the San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils, posting a 3.64 GAA and .898 SV%, but could get an opportunity at the crease in Colorado if Georgiev and Annunen are unable to provide consistent efforts.

Barkov (lower-body) is out on Thursday but has a possibility to return on the weekend.

Barkov has missed the last six games due to a lower-body injury and will miss at least one more before a potential return to the lineup. The defending Stanley Cup Champions are off to a reasonable start to the 2024-25 season, posting a 4-3-1 record, but will be overjoyed to have their captain back in the lineup. Last season, Barkov had 80 points (23G / 57A) in 73 games.

Bobrovsky will start on Thursday in New York.

Bobrovsky had a tremendous 2023-24 season but also started slow, posting a .899 SV% in his first five contests (2-3-0). The Panthers enter action on Thursday as +130 road underdogs against the Rangers, one of four clubs without a regulation loss (5-0-1).

Through three games this season, the Sharks have alternated between Vanecek and Mackenzie Blackwood between the pipes, a trend that will continue on Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks when Vanecek occupies the crease. Despite a 2-0 losing effort, Vanecek was terrific in his only start this season, saving 28 of 29 shots (.966 SV%) against the Anaheim Ducks.
