Montreal has signed Lane Hutson to a three-year, entry-level contract and he will join the team immediately.

Hutson was the 62nd overall pick of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old scored 49 points (15G / 34A) in 2023-24 playing collegiate hockey with Boston University. He is expected to meet Montreal on Sunday.

Montembeault will start on Thursday in New York.

The Canadiens snapped a three-game losing skid on Tuesday and will return to Montembeault between the pipes on Thursday against the New York Islanders. Montembeault has won two of his last three games, including saving 33 of 36 shots (.917 SV%) in a 9-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers in his most recent outing. Xhekaj will undergo season-ending left shoulder surgery on Wednesday and is out for the remainder of the season.

Xhekaj has not played the last two games and will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder. The 23-year-old Xhekaj spent the first half of the season between the NHL and AHL but has been a fixture with the Canadiens for the last couple of months. He ends the season with 10 points (3G / 7A), 121 hits, and 49 blocks in 44 games.

Kahkonen will start on Wednesday in New York.

Kahkonen will man the Devils' crease for the first time in four games and his fourth time since being acquired from San Jose at the trade deadline. The 27-year-old has played exceptionally better during his time with the Devils, as proven by his 1-2-0 record, 2.17 GAA and .934 SV% since being traded. He will head to New York to take on cross-town rivals in the Rangers, who have won five of their last six games and have the NHL's fourth-best powerplay this season (25.7%).

Montembeault will start on Tuesday vs. Florida.

The Canadiens' three-game winning streak was snapped in their last outing, but they will turn to Montembeault between the pipes again on Tuesday. Montembeault has played well lately, allowing only three total goals in his last two games (1-1-0), including a strong performance in a losing effort in his last outing, saving 27 of 29 shots (.931 SV%) in a 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canadiens enter action as +200 home underdogs.
